FIFA World Cup play is set to begin next week and Google
is just as amped as anyone else. But if you’re like most of us and
simply can’t afford to visit one of the 12 host stadiums in person,
Google has you covered with new Street View imagery of each stadium as well as their surrounding areas.
The update also includes imagery of Brazil’s iconic painted streets,
a tournament tradition as well as hundreds of tourist sites across the
country. For example, viewers can get a first-person view of sites like
IguaƧu National Park and St. Michael of the Missions, just to name a
few.
If you’re one of the lucky ones planning to make the trip to see the
world's biggest soccer tournament in person, Google has some new
features to assist in your travels. Specifically, you’ll have access to
updated transit information and indoor maps for more than 100 venues
including airports, shopping malls and tournament stadiums.
There’s also mobile turn-by-turn navigation so you can zip from place
to place, complete with real-time traffic information, incident reports
from Waze and voice-guided directions.
Soccer isn’t terribly popular in the US at this point but people in
other countries go absolutely bonkers over the sport. I may tune in to
check out a game or two but I have no vested interest in a particular
team. How about you? Which team will you be cheering for?
